What you must hold to be hired

Texas TCFP Basic Firefighter and Texas DSHS EMT-Basic, or a DSHS certified or licensed paramedic (same FAQ). Out-of-state fire and EMS cards move through TCFP transferring-to-texas and DSHS EMS reciprocity. The city will not hire you on another state's wallet card.

Already-certified firefighters do not repeat fire academy. Paramedics who are not TCFP Basic still attend fire academy.

Certified Fire Fighter pay on the FY 2025-2026 Civil Service Fire Pay Plan, effective January 3, 2026, is Step A $86,028.80 and Step F $108,014.40 (City of Denton, Laserfiche DocView id=76168). The city's NEOGOV Fire Fighter-Recruit posting (job 26-0000000306, retrieved 2026-08-18) prints the same Step A figure. Confirm the current plan. Do not use DocumentCenter/View/8199; that file is a superseded year.
