Out-of-State Firefighter to Texas: TCFP Transfer in 2026

How Texas actually transfers fire certification (2026)

Road 1: IFSAC jurisdiction. Texas recognizes IFSAC certificates from other jurisdictions in the disciplines listed on the transferring page: basic structural fire protection, ARFF, HM technician, HM incident commander, incident safety officer, D/O-pumper, D/O-aerial, fire inspector, plans examiner, fire investigator, fire instructor, fire officer, fire and life safety educator. Do not add disciplines TCFP did not list.

For Basic Structure Fire Fighter you create a FIDO account, upload copies of Hazardous Materials Awareness, Hazardous Materials Operations, Fire Fighter I, and Fire Fighter II seals, upload equivalent medical training (ECA, EMT, or Paramedic) or a DSHS or National Registry card, and complete the IdentoGo FAST-Pass fingerprint check. Then you apply on the FIDO Applications page and pay the invoice. The certificate issues when the invoice is paid.

Road 2: non-IFSAC jurisdiction. You may request a records review so staff can decide whether the training is equivalent and whether you can sit a skills evaluation and challenge the commission exam. Use form TCFP-045. Get a FIDO PIN first. Mail records and the fee to TCFP, ATTN: Training Approval and Testing Program, PO Box 2286, Austin, TX 78768-2286.

Pro Board is not listed on the transferring page as a parallel automatic road. A TEEX ProBoard certificate with a TCFP TPA number can exempt a new Texas trainee from the structural exam (TCFP, new-fire-suppression-fighter, retrieved 2026-08-18). An out-of-state Pro Board holder without IFSAC seals should assume the records-review road until FIDO or certification staff say otherwise.

The EMS layer Denton will not waive

A clean TCFP seal is not a Denton job. Hire eligibility requires Texas TCFP and Texas DSHS credentials (City of Denton Fire and Emergency Careers FAQ, retrieved 2026-08-18). DSHS EMS reciprocity (retrieved 2026-08-18) requires:

• Age 18 and a high school diploma or GED

• Current out-of-state certification or current National Registry, kept current until Texas issues

• Texas Assessment Exam through National Registry if you are state-certified only

• Texas jurisprudence CE with exam, uploaded as PDF

• Verification Form A sent by every state that has ever certified you, emailed by that state to emscert@dshs.texas.gov

• IdentoGo fingerprints using the DSHS code (email emscert@dshs.texas.gov for the code)

• ECA / First Responder / EMR credentials are not eligible for Texas reciprocity

A seal is not a hire

Denton still runs a Chapter 143 written exam, then background and polygraph, then a department PAT, not CPAT (city FAQ, 2026-08-18). Already-certified firefighters do not repeat fire academy. Paramedics who are not TCFP Basic still do.

Confirm the posting at every other department. Do not invent a statewide EMT-or-paramedic majority.
