Academy First or EMT School First? The Denton Fire AnswerFor Denton the order is set by the two doors to hire. Door one is TCFP Basic plus EMT-Basic, and the commission will not issue the fire certificate without documented EMS training, so EMT comes first or alongside the academy. Door two is a paramedic licence on its own; the department puts you through fire academy after hire and pays for paramedic school for door-one hires.

The federal handbook lists a postsecondary nondegree award as the typical entry, the Texas commission lists no degree for the certificate, and three Texas departments show the range: Denton asks for a diploma, Houston for 15 college hours or two years of service unless you are certified, Dallas for 45 hours, a placement test or 48 months of service.
