How to get a 300 on the Marine Corps PFT
A 300 is a perfect PFT: 100 points on pull-ups, the plank, and the 3-mile run. Push-ups cannot get you there. Here is the current official table, not a 2014 crunch chart.

A 300 on the Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test is a perfect score: 100 points on each of the three events. The events are pull-ups or push-ups, a plank, and a 3-mile run (Marine Corps recruiting, enlistment requirements; Marine Corps Fitness, PFT/CFT, accessed 2026-08-14).
The crunch is gone. As of 1 January 2023 the plank is mandatory and the crunch is no longer authorized. The official site lists 3:45 for a maximum plank and 1:10 for the minimum, on a single standard for every age and sex.
Do not train to a 2014 chart that still says 100 crunches. That test is over.
If the sheet in your unit disagrees with this page, the order in your unit is the score sheet.

The current official table, as much as one page can print
| Event | What a 100 looks like | What the floor looks like | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pull-ups | The max reps on your age-and-sex row in MCO 6100.13A | The min reps on that same row | Dead-hang. This is the upper-body event that can reach 100. |
| Push-ups (alternate) | Shorter scale than pull-ups | Hybrid option | Choose pull-ups or push-ups. Confirm the current hybrid table. A 300 has historically required the pull-up column. |
| Plank | 3:45 | 1:10 | One table for everyone. Crunch not authorized after 1 Jan 2023. |
| 3-mile run | The max time on your age-and-sex row | The min (slowest still-passing) time on that row | Authorized alternates exist in the order (row, and altitude tables). Read the current order. |
The pull-up and run rows move with age and sex. Printing one "magic" number (23 pull-ups, 18:00) as if it were every Marine's 300 is how stale blogs get people hurt or failed. Look up your row on the official PFT/CFT standards page or the HQMC calculator (tables current to the 23 March 2022 calculator note; confirm against the order your unit is using).
MCO 6100.13A with Admin Change 5 (28 May 2025) is the current consolidation of the order (MCPEL listing). Admin Change 4 (23 March 2022) is the change that reset the plank maximum to 3:45 and the minimum to 1:10, effective 1 January 2022.
Passing is not 300. A first-class score is far below a perfect score. As of 1 January 2026, Marines in combat-arms primary MOSs have a sex-neutral minimum of 210 on the male, age-normed table (official Marine Corps announcement of 18 December 2025, restated by the Department of War on 19 December 2025). That is a pass floor for those MOSs. It is not a 300.
Why people miss 300
They pick push-ups and then watch the upper-body column top out short of 100. They hold a plank to an outdated maximum. The pre-2022 maximum was 4:20; the current table is 3:45. They run a pretty 5K and never practice three flat miles in green-on-green. They train the events on separate days and never do pull-ups when the legs are already cooked.
A 300 is strength and endurance in one session, just like every other service test. The Fit to Serve, Part II week is the base. Bias it like this:
- Tomorrow, work day. Pull-up volume (or assisted volume that becomes unassisted). Plank practice to 3:45 with honest hips. Farmer's walks and deadlifts so the trunk that holds the plank also holds a hose or a pack. Part I is the diet.
- The next day, engine. Easy running you can talk through, plus one interval block. Once a week, run the full three miles at goal-max pace for your row. The other engine day is recovery miles or a ruck.
- Second work day and second engine day later in the week. Same shapes.
- One combined day, late in the week. Pull-ups, then the plank, then the three-mile, with only the rest the order allows. That is the test. Practice the test.
Film the plank from the side. If the hips pike or sag, the monitor will kill the clock.
IST, PFT, and CFT are three different tests
The Initial Strength Test that lets a poolee ship to recruit training is a different test: pull-ups or push-ups, a plank, and a 1.5-mile run, with published minimums on marines.com (male 3 pull-ups or 34 push-ups in 2:00, 1.5 miles in 13:30, 40-second plank; female 1 pull-up or 15 push-ups in 2:00, 1.5 miles in 15:00, 40-second plank; accessed 2026-08-14). Clearing the IST is not a 300 PFT.
The Combat Fitness Test is a separate 300-point test: movement to contact, ammo-can lifts, maneuver under fire. "Dual 300" is a colloquialism the order does not define; people use it to mean both tests at 300. This page is the PFT only.
When you want the broader week that also covers fire, EMS, police, and the other services, use Fit to Serve. When you want the CFT, that is the next specific article.
