McKinney Firefighter Hiring 2026: Window Closed

5 min readUpdated 2026-09-03

McKinney Fire is not hiring. A keywords=fire search on governmentjobs.com/careers/cityofmckinney returned 0 jobs on 2026-09-03: No jobs found. Your search - fire - didn't match any jobs.

The last dated firefighter posting is still hosted: Firefighter Exam 2026 (NEOGOV 5322985, job 252600196). Opening May 1, 2026. Closing May 31, 2026, 5:00 PM Central. "Exam must be completed by May 31, 2026." That window has closed. Do not apply on 5322985.

Two clocks were published for that cycle and they differed. NEOGOV closed 5:00 PM Central May 31. Public Safety Answers printed 11:59 pm May 31. That banner is the May cycle, not a live door.

Watch Work-for-Us and the notify form. The city FAQ: We do not keep applications on file.

Official fire hub: mckinneytexas.org/3560/Fire-Department. Hiring page is /254. Apply face when a posting is open is governmentjobs.com/careers/cityofmckinney. Department listing: McKinney Fire Department. Texas order of operations: how to become a firefighter in Texas. Nearby: Dallas, Plano, Frisco, Allen.

How do I watch for the next exam?

  1. Open Work-for-Us.
  2. Sign up on Notify Me of Entry-Level or Lateral Firefighter Exam.
  3. Watch the city of McKinney NEOGOV board.

The next exam date is unpublished. FAQ: the number of hires varies with resignations and retirements; there is no time frame. Recruiting: 972-547-2850, MFDPIO@McKinneyTexas.org.

What did the May 2026 cycle require?

Hold these as the last posted cycle, not as a promise for the next unposted window.

5322985, PSA, and Work-for-Us named three certification doors at the time of application, with preference in this order:

  1. TCFP Basic Firefighter with Texas DSHS Paramedic or NREMT Paramedic
  2. Texas DSHS Paramedic or NREMT Paramedic only
  3. TCFP Firefighter with DSHS EMT or NREMT EMT

NEOGOV: "If you do not fall into one of the above three categories, you are not elligible to apply at this time." (city spelling). The FAQ is broader: "Depending on the hiring event, Basic Firefighter Certification / EMT / Paramedic Certifications may be required to apply." Those two measuring sticks are both published.

Applying was a two-step process: Government Jobs, then the online written exam and video interview on Public Safety Answers. Written exam passing score 70%. Honorable discharge on DD-214 added 5 points after a passing 70. FAQ spells the form DD2-14. Those two spellings are both published.

How old do I have to be?

18, with the city's own clock split.

Work-for-Us and 5322985 disagree on event count. Train the seven-event Work-for-Us course.

What To Do While the Window Is Closed

Do not apply on 5322985. Sign the notify form. Watch Work-for-Us and the NEOGOV board. Hold one of the three certification doors from the last cycle so you are not surprised when the next posting names its floor. Train the seven-event department PAT to 8:30, not a CPAT card.
