What You Need Before You Apply

This is not an uncertified recruit door. The hiring process page, live 2026-08-29:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• TDSHS paramedic certification.
• Texas driver's license.
• TCFP structural firefighter certification.
• Out-of-state applicants must show they are in process for a Texas driver's license, TDSHS paramedic, and TCFP structural, with written confirmation they are eligible for reciprocity.

The closed 2026 card (NEOGOV 5046786) also allowed final session of paramedic school or TCFP school, with no conditional offer until both cards are complete. Same card: obtain Class B within one year. Age floor on that cycle: at least 18 on or before the written exam date (that sitting: June 12, 2026). No published 35/36 cap in the opened pack. Do not ship 18-35.

Collin College Fire Academy is in the county. It is not a required Allen first step. Do not register on NTN as Allen's written.

Order of the process

From the hiring-process page:

1. Completed job application.
2. Written test, pass/fail. Topics named on the page: basic math, logic/reasoning, map reading, mechanical aptitude, reading comprehension, reading gauges, situational judgment, spatial sense, table interpretation, vocabulary. 3. Same-day department PAT.
4. Oral interview by several members of the fire department. Interview scores rank the list.
5. Reference checks on the top candidate, then Fire Chief interview.
6. Psychological exam, background with polygraph, medical exam.
7. City HR criminal background, driving record, and pre-employment drug screen.

Does Allen Use CPAT?

No. The physical is a same-day department PAT, not a CPAT card. 35-pound vest provided by the department. Work gloves provided by the applicant. Worn for the whole test.

• Ladder climb, 5 minutes: climb a 75-foot aerial, fully extended, at a 72-degree angle, and return to the pedestal. Each rung on the way up and down.
• Rest, 2 minutes.
• Series events, 13 minutes, time keeps running if you have to correct a mistake: hose couple; charged-hose drag through obstacles; stair climb with hose pack (carry, no skip); hose pull hand-over-hand on a rope; stair descent with the pack; Kaiser machine with a sledge, hands to head level on the upstroke; crawl on hands and knees; dummy drag, any carry.

How Long Is the Academy?

Week count unpublished. You bring TCFP structural and TDSHS paramedic. Do not use 12 to 16 weeks.

Stations, headcount, and retirement

Station count, appointed strength, ISO, founding year, and pension are unpublished in the opened pack. Do not take those rows from the department page. Do not print TMRS. Last-cycle line schedule on NEOGOV 5046786: 1-3, 2-3 (24 on / 72 off, then 48 on / 72 off). Fourteen-day pay cycle, overtime after 100 hours. Do not print 24/48.
