The Foundation

Honor. Courage. Commitment.

These three core values define every sailor in the United States Navy. They are not aspirations. They are expectations. Lived daily, tested constantly, and proven under pressure.

HONOR

Honos

COURAGE

Virtus

I will support and defend. Accordingly, we will have the courage to meet the demands of our profession and the mission when it is hazardous, demanding, or otherwise difficult. We will make decisions in the best interest of the Navy and the nation, without regard to personal consequences.

COMMITMENT

Dedicatio

I will obey the orders. Accordingly, we will demand respect up and down the chain of command. We will care for the safety, professional, personal, and spiritual well-being of our people. We are committed to positive change and constant improvement. We will exhibit the highest degree of moral character.
