What You Need Before You Apply

This is an uncertified cadet door.

• At least 18 to sit the written exam. May not be 40 or older at the start of employment (NEOGOV) / on date of hire (recruiting). Those two measuring points are both live. They are not averaged. If you are close to 40, confirm which the department will use.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid Texas driver's license, or the ability to obtain one.
• An applicant may be certified in any or none of the following: Firefighter, EMT and/or Paramedic. TCFP and EMT are not required on day one. The 2025 bulletin sends cadets to the in-house Round Rock Fire Department Training Academy. Cadets earn TCFP Structure Fire Suppression and DSHS EMT during that academy.
• Written exam is the FACT-100. Minimum 70 to move on. Preference points after that 70, not stacked: military 5 (honorable discharge, DD-214, at least 180 days active), paramedic 5, AEMT 3.
• Hiring process advertised about 23 weeks from apply through Step 7. Academy length in weeks is unpublished.
• Austin Community College is not a required first step. Round Rock runs its own academy.

Does Round Rock Use CPAT?

No. The physical is a department PAT. Recruiting Step 2/3: dry hose deployment, charged hose deployment, halyard raise, roof walk, attic crawl, victim removal, ladder removal/carry, crawling search, and stair climb with hose. PAT Orientation is optional. PAT Final is mandatory. One recruiting sentence says candidates sign up for interviews "after passing the CPAT Final." That is the city's wording. A CPAT card does not skip the department PAT.

How Long Is the Academy?

In-house. Length in weeks is unpublished on recruiting and 5074304 this retrieval. Older copies of this page used 12 to 16 weeks. The advertised clock is the 23-week application process, not academy length.

The city Fire Stations page lists numbered houses 1-9 in service. Central at 203 Commerce Blvd is admin / Fire Marshal, not a tenth hire station. Station 10 and Station 11 are not open hire houses.
