Temple Firefighter Hiring 2026: Registration Closed

7 min readUpdated 2026-09-03

The window is closed. Online registration for this list had to be completed by 11:59 p.m. CST Wednesday, September 2, 2026. That clock has passed. If you did not register, you cannot register for this exam.

If you did register, Temple Fire & Rescue still sits a Chapter 143 Civil Service entrance exam on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. at the Temple Junior College Pavilion, 130 East Marvin R Felder Drive, Temple, TX 76504 (exam announcement, posted 2026-07-20). Personal History Statement due 5:00 p.m. CST Friday, September 18, 2026.

The Become a Firefighter page still shows a REGISTER FOR THE CIVIL SERVICE EXAM button that points at Dayforce. That button is not a live door. templetx.gov/jobs is Dayforce: jobs.dayforcehcm.com/en-US/myhrtempletx/CANDIDATEPORTAL. On 2026-09-03 that board listed 25 city jobs and zero firefighter, cadet, or civil-service-exam cards (same empty fire board as 2026-08-22).

Become says exams are given as needed, no less than once per year. Watch Become and the jobs portal for the next posting.

Department listing: Temple Fire & Rescue. Official hub: Fire & Rescue. Texas order of operations: how to become a firefighter in Texas. TCFP explained: what is TCFP certification. EMT path: how to become an EMT in Texas.

What You Need Before You Apply

This is a cadet beginning position. The announcement still requires you to meet TCFP firefighter licensing requirements and Texas Department of State Health Services EMT or Paramedic licensing. The Become a Firefighter page and the Fire & Rescue Employment page also name TCFP and EMT National Registry. Those two EMS lines are both live. The job description on Become: obtain and maintain EMT.

Announcement eligibility (posted 2026-07-20):

  • United States citizen.
  • At least 18. Three age measuring points are published, and they disagree. The announcement: you cannot have reached the 36th birthday by the time you are certified eligible, defined as passing the written examination and the physical agility test. Become: 18, not 36 at written and physical testing. Employment: 18 to test, not 36 at hire. Act on at written and physical testing. It is the earliest measuring point and the only one that satisfies all three documents.
  • No felony conviction.
  • Good character and reputation.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Texas driver license.
  • Read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Meet TCFP firefighter licensing requirements and TDSHS EMT or Paramedic licensing.

On a passing written score, the announcement prints a maximum of five additional points, then lists military service 5 (minimum one year active, honorable discharge), passed TCFP Basic Fire Fighter Examination 3, and current/valid paramedic license 5. Upload DD214, TCFP Basic, and/or paramedic license at registration. Become and Employment still list military 5 only. This cycle uses the announcement.

Residency for this cycle: firefighters must live within 150 minutes travel of Central Fire Station (210 North 3rd Street) on the department Geographical Restriction map. Become and Employment still show a 45-minute civil-emergency response rule. This cycle uses 150 minutes.

After written and PAT: Personal History Statement and supporting documents due 5:00 p.m. CST Friday, September 18, 2026. Then a physical examination and a polygraph, as printed on the announcement. Become and Employment also name background, oral board, medical/drug, eye 20/100 uncorrected, and psychological. Confirm the live announcement.

The eligibility list from this exam lasts one year unless exhausted. The employment page still links a October 7, 2023 eligibility list. That is a prior cycle, not this one.

Does Temple Use CPAT?

No. After the written, you sit the department physical agility assessment the same morning at Wilson Park. Event times were unpublished on the opened pages (retrieved 2026-08-22). Not a CPAT card. Specs for the standard eight-event CPAT: CPAT vs firefighter physical ability tests.

How Long Is the Academy?

Week count unpublished. The public Temple Fire Academy is a separate paid school. The academy page opened on 2026-08-22 said the next class is most likely January 2027, date unpublished. Central Texas College is not named as a required first step on this cycle.

Stations and retirement

Eight numbered facilities, including St8 / Training Center / EOC at 7268 Airport Road. The stations and facilities directories print ZIP 76501. The academy contact prints 76502. Use the stations directory address.

Retirement for Temple firefighters is the Temple Firemen's Relief and Retirement Fund (TLFFRA, PRB 328). It is not TMRS. TMRS is the city plan for other employees.

What To Do This Cycle

If you registered by September 2: sit Saturday, September 12. Train a department PAT, not a CPAT card. PHS is due 5:00 p.m. CST Friday, September 18, 2026. Extra-point proof (military, TCFP Basic exam, paramedic license) had to be uploaded at registration.

If you did not register: you cannot join this list. Become says the next exam is posted as needed, no less than once per year. Watch Become a Firefighter and templetx.gov/jobs. Do not treat the REGISTER button on Become as a live door.

Ready to Serve is the candidate tracker for certifications, PAT fitness, and application materials.
