Temple Firefighter Hiring 2026: Next Exam Not Yet Posted

The Become a Firefighter page is where the next exam will be announced. It says that when an exam is posted, registration is completed online at templetx.gov/jobs.

What You Need Before You Apply

Temple's two live hiring pages, Become a Firefighter and Fire & Rescue Employment, list the same basic requirements, read 2026-10-14:

• Must be a citizen of the United States of America.
• Pass a Civil Service written entrance test.
• Age. The two pages measure the age 36 limit at different points. Become: "18 years of age, but not attain the age of 36 years at the time of Written and Physical testing." Employment: "Be at least 18 years of age to take the Civil Service written entrance exam but not have attained 36 years of age at the time of hire." Ask Human Resources at 254-298-5650 which one the next exam uses.
• Be a graduate of an accredited high school, or have an equivalency certificate issued by the Texas Education Agency (or the equivalent agency in another state or the District of Columbia).
• Must meet all requirements of the Texas Commission on Fire Protection and the EMT National Registry.

The job description on both pages says obtain and maintain EMT certification.

Both pages say the eligibility list comes from the final examination scores (passing is 70) and is valid for one year unless exhausted. Five points are added to a passing grade for an applicant who served on active duty in the United States Armed Forces for at least one year and received an honorable discharge. A DD214 Member 4 form must be submitted with the registration form or before the exam starts. Neither page lists any other extra points.

Applicants considered for appointment as a Cadet or Probationary Firefighter must pass each phase of the selection process: Physical Assessment Test, background investigation, polygraph exam, oral interview board, work fitness medical exam including a drug test, eye exam (20/100 uncorrected), and psychological exam.

Conditions of employment on both pages: be able to respond to a civil emergency within a 45-minute travel response time, use no tobacco products on duty, and take and pass an annual Physical Assessment Test.

The Employment page also links the Firefighter Eligibility List from the October 7, 2023 entrance exam. That is a prior cycle.

Does Temple Use CPAT?

Neither city page names the CPAT. Both name Temple's own Physical Assessment Test, as a selection step and as an annual condition of employment, and neither lists its events or times. Specs for the standard eight-event CPAT: CPAT vs firefighter physical ability tests.

How Long Is the Academy?

Week count unpublished. The public Temple Fire Academy is a separate paid school. The academy page opened on 2026-08-22 said the next class is most likely January 2027, date unpublished. Central Texas College is not named as a required first step on this cycle.

Stations and retirement

Eight numbered facilities, including St8 / Training Center / EOC at 7268 Airport Road. The stations and facilities directories print ZIP 76501. The academy contact prints 76502. Use the stations directory address.

Retirement for Temple firefighters is the Temple Firemen's Relief and Retirement Fund (TLFFRA, PRB 328). It is not TMRS. TMRS is the city plan for other employees.
