What You Need Before You Apply

This is not an uncertified recruit door.

• At least 18 years of age by the date of the test. No published 35/36 cap on the hiring page.
• Certified Firefighter and EMT at the time of application. Current DSHS EMT-B or Paramedic and current TCFP Basic Fire Suppression. Out-of-state firefighters must already hold TCFP before applying. FAQ: "No, you must be a certified Firefighter in Texas."
• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record as defined by city policy. The 2025 bulletin 5030295 also listed Class B within six months of hire.
• No felony convictions, or misdemeanor convictions of such a number that would indicate a habitual law violator.
• Visual acuity to read traffic signs and house numbers from about 50 feet, often in dim light. Distinguish red, yellow, and green.
• Pre-employment drug test. Background. Post-offer physical, psychological exam, and polygraph on the 2025 bulletin.
• No residency requirement. No extra points for military service.
• Lateral program: Texas certified firefighter/paramedics who worked paid fire and EMS. Out-of-state laterals still need TCFP and DSHS paramedic at apply. Starting step is by whole years of experience. Collin College is not a required first step. Not NTN.

A paramedic still in fire school may apply only if already a certified firefighter and able to attend the four-week mini academy.

Does Lewisville Use CPAT?

No. The physical is a department PAT. FAQ: PAT and Rapid Panel Interview run the same day. Bring a driver's license. Wear athletic clothes and tennis shoes. A CPAT card does not skip it. Event specs are unpublished on the hiring page this retrieval. The September 2025 PAT dates were that cycle, not the next sitting.

How Long Is the Academy?

Mini academy about 4 weeks, then a one-year task book covering LFD operations. You bring TCFP and EMT. Older copies of this page used 12 to 16 weeks; that figure is not on the city's pages.

Fire Administration: Operations shift staffing 177 personnel on three shifts. 48 hours on / 96 hours off (FAQ: transition began December 26, 2025). Eight stations, six engines, two tower ladders, five medics, one EMS Captain, one Battalion Chief. All current firefighters are paramedics on that page. That is crew staffing, not the apply door. The apply door is TCFP plus EMT-B or paramedic. Older copies used 175 as sworn and 1924 as the founding year.
