Official hub: gptx.org Departments/Fire. HQ 1525 Arkansas Lane, 3rd Floor, Grand Prairie, TX 75052. Non-emergency 972-237-8300. Fax 972-237-8309. Hiring questions: GPFDinfo@gptx.org. Chief Robert Fite on the ISO page. Department listing: Grand Prairie Fire Department. Same-city police hiring is a different page: How to Become a Police Officer in Grand Prairie. Texas order of operations: how to become a firefighter in Texas. Paramedic path: how to become a paramedic in Texas.
Employment and the NEOGOV posting both print a 48-96 schedule and say the department is finishing four-person engine companies / four-person staffing. Chapter 143 civil service. The FAQ says Grand Prairie cannot hire laterals because of those rules.
What You Need Before You Apply
Paramedic is the gate. A TCFP card is not an apply rule.
- 18 to 35. Employment: age 36 or older is not eligible for a beginning firefighter position. NEOGOV question 8 measures that as of October 10, 2026.
- High school diploma or GED.
- U.S. citizen by birth or naturalization, or permanent resident. Read, write, and fluently speak English.
- By date of hire: Texas Paramedic License/Certificate or National Registry Paramedic. The city says getting that license takes about a year. If your name comes up and you do not hold it, you are skipped. You may still be considered if you finish it while the list is active and vacancies exist. FAQ: you may apply while enrolled in paramedic school. FAQ: a paramedic who has not been to a fire academy can apply; the department sends paramedics to a fire academy.
- Non-user of tobacco products.
- MVR and drug-use bars as printed on Employment and 5433190.
- Written exam pass is 70. Honorable-discharge DD-214 adds 5 points after that 70. Employment lists the DD-214 as required by the application deadline. NEOGOV says submit it before the test. File it by October 2, 2026, 5:00 p.m. Central, the earlier clock.
- Personal History Statement, complete and signed with attachments, is due the day of the physical agility test.
- CPS HR study access for this form is valid until October 2, 2026. Candidate Preparation Manuals are $7.50. The candidate buys them.
Do not treat Tarrant County College Fire Science as a required first step. Do not treat TCFP Basic plus EMT as Grand Prairie's apply rule.
Does Grand Prairie Use CPAT?
No. Employment names a department physical agility test, then medical, psychological, oral review board, background, and polygraph. Event list and time cap were not printed on Employment or 5433190 this retrieval. Walkthrough: Physical Agility Test Walkthrough. A CPAT card does not skip that PAT.
Specs for the standard eight-event CPAT: CPAT vs firefighter physical ability tests.
How Long Is the Academy?
Unpublished as a week count. FAQ: the department sends paramedics to a fire academy. Older copies of this page used 12 to 16 weeks; the city does not print a week count. Hire title on Employment is Fire Recruit.
Stations, headcount, and ISO
Two station counts are published, and they disagree.
The hub says the department has ten fire stations: two double-company houses and eight single-company houses, staffed 24 hours with Firefighter/Paramedics, plus Hazardous Response, Dive, Swift Water, Confined Space, and Wildland teams. It dates the first permanent station to 1949 at 321 West Main Street, volunteer start 1917, first paid firefighter 1945, and 239 paid members.
The Fire Station Locations page opens with 11 fire stations and lists numbered houses 1-11:
- 510 W Main St.
- 3102 Bowles St.
- 1260 W Marshall Rd.
- 1502 Duncan Perry Rd.
- 3202 S Great SW Pkwy.
- 602 Stonewall Dr.
- 5610 Lake Ridge Pkwy.
- 3017 Roy Orr Blvd.
- 315 W Polo Rd.
- 2645 S Grand Peninsula Dr.
- 11005 Davis Drive, Midlothian.
Older copies of this page used 235 sworn, 10 as the only station count, 1909 as the founding year, and Tarrant as the only county. The hub now prints 239 paid members and ten stations. The locations page lists 11. The city spans more than one county; Station 11 sits in Midlothian.
ISO Class 1. The ISO Rating page: 2017 score 95.98 (was ISO 3 / 75.06 in 2006). Station 10, resource redeployment, and the joint training center in Irving are named as part of that 2017 jump. State Fire Marshal approval letter is posted. Insurance renewal language is effective March 25, 2024. Chief Robert Fite.
Pension is not named on Employment, the hub, FAQ, or 5433190 this retrieval. This page does not invent a pension line.
