Broadway Ave., Flower Mound, TX 75028, phone 972.874.6270. Texas order of operations: how to become a firefighter in Texas. TCFP explained: what is TCFP certification. What You Need Before You Apply
The January 2026 posting, job 2026-06, listed three doors. Paramedic is preferred. It is not the only door. Older copies of this page called Flower Mound a paramedic-required department. The posting listed three doors.
Firefighter / Paramedic
- Upload DSHS Paramedic or NREMT-P.
Firefighter / EMT
- Upload a TCFP firefighter certificate and DSHS EMT or NREMT EMT. The department FAQ says Firefighter/EMT candidates need TCFP certificate AND TxDSHS.
Paramedic only
- No Basic Firefighter Certification. Hired at the Firefighter Recruit step on that posting.
All three doors on that posting
- At least 18 years old. No 35 or 36 cap printed on opened documents.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Texas Class B driver license within six months of hire.
- Out-of-state or military: Firefighter II with IFSAC seal plus DSHS or NREMT.
That posting also said a candidate hired without firefighter and/or paramedic can owe a three-year training clawback, and a sponsored paramedic program can end after failed National Registry attempts. Confirm the next posting.
Does Flower Mound Use CPAT?
No. The physical is a department PAT, pass/fail, proctored at Tarrant County College (TCC) Fire / Rescue Training Facility. Do not bring a CPAT card. Job 2026-06 named PAT March 5, 2026. That date has passed. It is not a live sitting.
Hiring-process PDF 49199 scores certifications, experience, and education, takes the top 60, then runs PAT pass/fail. Points named on that PDF: Intermediate Firefighter 1, Advanced Firefighter 2, EMT-Paramedic (TDSHS or NREMT) 3. The Hiring Process page says the written test was removed and candidates are ranked on TCFP certification level, firefighting work experience, and education.
Job 2026-06 sequence after PAT: panel, background, polygraph, Chief interview, psych/medical/drug. Shift on that posting: 48 hours on / 96 hours off.
Specs for the standard eight-event CPAT: CPAT vs firefighter physical ability tests.
How Long Is the Academy?
The city has not published a recruit-academy week count, so this guide does not print one. Older copies of this page printed 12-16 weeks. Collin College Fire Academy is in the region. It is not a required Flower Mound first step while the window is closed.
Stations, headcount, and retirement
The department stations page says the Flower Mound Fire Department operates 7 fire stations within the Flower Mound town limits. Older copies of this page said 6. Numbered St2-St7 addresses are unpublished. Admin / Station 1 is 3911 S. Broadway Ave. as above.
Headcount comes from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection roster. TCFP appointed strength is 141 (FDID 810, rank 58) on departments by size. Older copies of this page said 110; the roster says 141.
Call volume and founding year are unpublished. Leave them unpublished.
Pension: TMRS, not TLFFRA. Flower Mound plan: employee 7 percent, match 2 to 1, vest 5 years, 20-year any-age, USC 100 percent, USC Transfer Yes, COLA 30 percent Retroactive. Source: TMRS city plan. No Flower Mound fire PRB/TLFFRA row was found.
ISO: the department's ISO page names a 1/1X Public Protection Classification. The evaluation date is unpublished. Sitting fire chief is unpublished.
Starting pay is on the town's FY 2025/26 Approved Pay Plan, PAY PLAN DF. This guide does not print a dollar.
What To Do While the Window Is Closed
Do not apply. Bookmark Hiring Process and governmentjobs.com/careers/flowermoundtx. When a municipal firefighter posting opens, apply there. Train a department PAT at TCC standards, not a CPAT card. Age at least 18. Hold HS/GED. Hold or finish TCFP and the EMS card for the door you will use (FF/EMT, FF/Paramedic, or paramedic-only). Confirm the live posting before you apply. Ready to Serve is the candidate tracker for certifications, PAT fitness, and application materials.
