About This Resource

The Texas Commission on Fire Protection publishes a seven-step path to Basic Structure Fire Suppression: requirements, basic skills, pass the exam, medical training, background check, create a FIDO account, and apply. The structure exam has four sections (Fire Fighter I, Fire Fighter II, Hazardous Materials Awareness, Hazardous Materials Operations). Candidates with qualifying IFSAC seals or a TEEX Proboard certificate taught to NFPA 1001 (2008 or later) with a TCFP Training Prior Approval number can skip the written exam. The TCFP homepage is a portal. The seven-step page is the procedure.

How to Use This Resource

Open the TCFP seven-step page first, not the commission homepage and not the TCFP jobs board. Confirm whether your academy qualifies you for IFSAC or TEEX exemption. Create or recover your FIDO account. If you must test, study IFSTA Essentials of Fire Fighting against the commission curriculum, then schedule through FIDO. Upload medical training and complete IdentoGo fingerprints before you click Apply.
