  • 18 through not-yet-36 on the written exam date. Measured-at for this cycle is September 29, 2026. NeoGov question 1 still asks "between the ages of 18 and 35" plus proof of age. The notice's exam-day rule is the one this cycle uses.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Pass a medical examination.
  • Perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Valid driver's license on the date of appointment.
  • Read, write, and speak English fluently.

Optional written-exam study: crc.cpshr.us, ID NFire208262.

Order of the process

If you fail the entrance test, you may apply at the next posted sitting. Appointment starts a one-year probation before full civil service coverage.

Does Tyler Use CPAT?

No. The physical is a department work-fitness test, not a CPAT card. The eligibility page (retrieved 2026-08-20): untimed confined-space crawl 30 ft in an SCBA face piece and a 50 lb vest, then an 8-inch beam 8 ft high and 18 ft long. Timed block 6 minutes: stair climb, three flights with 42 lb of 1-1/2 inch hose; hoist a 42 lb donut to 35 ft; forcible entry with a 9 lb mallet on a 165 lb object 5 ft; hose advance 140 ft slalom then 75 ft charged 1-3/4 inch; 185 lb dummy 106 ft.
