New Braunfels Fire Department is hiring Firefighter/Paramedic through Monday, September 21, 2026. Apply on Workday R370. The posting opened August 3, 2026. Verified 2026-08-22; the posting is open through 2026-09-21.
The civil service notice is DocumentCenter 47378, not 47377. 47377 is a Police Deputy Chief promotional list. Written exam is Friday, October 2, 2026 at 8:00 a.m. at New Braunfels Police Department, 3030 West San Antonio St. Check-in 7:15 a.m. Late arrivals are disqualified. The eligibility list lasts 12 months from Commission approval or until exhausted. Practice agility is Saturday, September 12 and Saturday, September 26, 2026, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., no sign-up.
Department listing: New Braunfels Fire Department. Official hub: Fire-EMS. HQ 550 Landa St., New Braunfels, TX 78130. Chief Ruy Lozano, (830) 221-4200. Civil Service / HR (830) 221-4390. Texas order of operations: how to become a firefighter in Texas. TCFP explained: what is TCFP certification. EMT path: how to become an EMT in Texas.
What You Need Before You Apply
This posting is Firefighter/Paramedic only. Notice 47378 requires:
- TCFP Basic, or certifiable, prior to the conditional job offer.
- This process requires Paramedic (DSHS) or enrollment in a paramedic program, with EMT-P in hand before the conditional offer.
- Certified applicants: TCFP plus EMT-P with the application, or a hard copy on test day.
- Non-certified applicants: TCFP academy enrollment (or out-of-state reciprocity) and DSHS paramedic-program enrollment with the initial application.
Standing Training & Recruiting copy still describes TCFP plus EMT-B by application or test for certified candidates, and EMT enrollment for non-certified. Civil Service rules still say TCFP Basic and EMT-B (or certifiable) before the entrance examination. Workday's required-licenses block lists TCFP firefighter and EMT-B, then says non-paramedics may be required to complete a department-sponsored paramedic program. Notice 47378 is the door that governs this exam; the other three descriptions are older and disagree with it. Do not apply as a cadet. New Braunfels does not print cadet as a fire rank.
Two age limits are published, and they differ.
- Notice 47378: at least 18 at the written exam, must not have reached 40 years of age prior to the date of the written examination.
- Civil Service rules: 18th birthday as of the written exam, must not have reached their 36th birthday as of the written exam.
- Recruiting: must be eighteen. No max printed.
Also: high school diploma or GED. U.S. work eligibility as printed. Personal History Statement with the application.
Does New Braunfels Use CPAT?
No. Written exam, then a department Physical Agility Evaluation Course plus swim, not a CPAT card. Agility and swim run immediately after the written on October 2.
Timed tasks 1-5 in 5:00: stair climb with a 50-ft 3-inch hose, hose hoist from a third-floor window, Keiser forcible entry, charged 1.75-inch hose advance, victim rescue. Task 6 is an aerial ladder climb about 100 ft at 70 degrees, pass/fail. Task 7 is a swim 100 yards continuous forward motion then tread 5 minutes, pass/fail, at Das Rec, 345 Landa St. Agility can add up to 5 points (2:29 or faster = 5). Guide: Entry-Level Written/Physical Agility Information.
Victim-drag weight: Workday copy says 165 lb. Notice 47378 says 175 lb. Both figures are published. Train for the heavier one.
Specs for the standard eight-event CPAT: CPAT vs firefighter physical ability tests.
How Long Is the Academy?
The city has not published a recruit-academy week count. Non-certified applicants enroll in an outside TCFP academy. Training Division continuing education is at 424 S. Castell Avenue, (830) 221-4260. San Antonio College Fire Technology is an in-region school. It is not a required first step while R370 is open. New Braunfels does not test through National Testing Network.
Process on 47378: application plus Personal History Statement, invitation to test, written, agility plus swim, conditional offer, interview board, background, polygraph, physical plus drug plus vision, City Manager appointment.
Stations, headcount, and retirement
The Fire-EMS hub links Fire Station 1 through 7. That is seven working stations. HQ at 550 Landa St. is not an eighth station. Comal County ESD #7 is outside city limits and serviced by NBFD; do not count it as an eighth hire house. Station 7 at 357 FM 306 opened May 2024.

Pension is TMRS, employee 7 percent, city match 2 to 1, vest 5 years, retire at 20 years any age or age 60 with 5 years. Not a local fire relief fund. Union named on opened pages: NBPFFA. No local number printed.
Starting pay is on the city's FY 2025-2026 Fire Department Step Plan and on Workday R370. This guide does not print a dollar.
What To Do This Cycle
Apply on R370 before September 21, 2026. Attach TCFP and DSHS Paramedic, or the enrollment proof 47378 asks for. Sit October 2 at NBPD. Train the department agility plus the swim, not a CPAT card. Practice days are September 12 and 26. Confirm whether this sitting uses the notice age cap (not 40) or the CS-rules cap (not 36) before you spend a cycle if you are 36-39.
Confirm the live R370 header and 47378 before you apply. Ready to Serve is the candidate tracker for certifications, PAT fitness, and application materials.
