Midland Firefighter Hiring 2026: Window Closed Sep 4, Next Cycle
The window is closed. Re-read live September 7, 2026: the combined posting, Certified Firefighter or Fire Recruit, NEOGOV job 5430828, printed a closing time of September 4, 2026 at 8:00 pm, and that time has passed. Apply before the earlier of the two. Apply at both governmentjobs.com/careers/midlandtx/jobs/5430828 and publicsafetyanswers.com/midland.
The cycle ran two-step: (1) apply with the city, (2) test with Public Safety Answers. Test registration closed: NEOGOV September 6, 2026 8:00 p.m. vs PSA September 7, 2026 11:59 p.m. CT. What You Need Before You Apply
Two doors. Read the one that matches you.
Fire Recruit
- No TCFP or EMT required to sit.
- Recruits must become TCFP certified firefighters and DSHS EMT within one year.
- Preference for current NREMT or Texas DSHS EMS. Uncertified applicants are the recruit list.
Certified Firefighter
- TCFP Basic Fire Suppression and Texas DSHS EMT-B (or NREMT EMT) at hire. Paramedic preferred.
- Applicants lacking those cards go to the recruit list.
Both doors
- 18 to 35, not yet 36 at appointment. This cycle's hire date is January 4, 2027.
- High school diploma or GED.
- The MFD Career page also requires at least 15 hours of college credit within the last five years or minimum scoring on college admittance tests. The later quals pages and the PSA page omit that line. Keep it as a career-page rule.
- Valid Texas driver's license prior to appointment on the quals pages. PSA says Texas DL or ability to obtain within 3 months of date of hire. Confirm the live card.
Does Midland Use CPAT?
No. The physical is a department entry-level physical agility test, not a CPAT card. This cycle: September 19, 2026. Do not bring a CPAT card.

How Long Is the Academy?
The city has not published a recruit-academy week count. Recruits have a 12-month clock to earn TCFP firefighter certification and DSHS EMT. That is not a 12-16 week folklore cadet block.
Stations, headcount, and retirement
Stations: 11 (ten city houses plus ARFF at Midland International Air and Space Port). A twelfth on donated land is planned, not open. Do not publish 12. Opened directory pages named stations 1-5: #1 Central 1500 W. Wall St; #2 701 E. Florida; #3 1707 N. Lamesa; #4 5100 N. Big Spring; #5 2210 W. Golf Course Rd. Stations 6-11 and the ARFF house are numbered, not fully addressed here.
Headcount: TCFP appointed strength is 256 (FDID 1510, rank 21) on departments by size. The about page says over 250. An older line says 262 sworn; the two are not averaged.
Call volume: the operations page says over 20,000 calls and over 21,000 EMS patient interactions. Those are not an exact 2026 annual total. Leave the exact count unpublished.
Pension: Midland Firemen's Relief and Retirement Fund (TLFFRA), not TMRS. PRB plan 248: employee 14.15 percent, employer 24.10 percent, Social Security No. The city ordinance line raised the employer contribution to 24.2 percent effective January 1, 2024. Do not copy citywide TMRS rates onto fire.
ISO: the city claims ISO Class 1. No evaluation year on the opened about page. Chief Michael Tully, ninth chief, named May 7, 2025. Volunteer founding 1909. Fully paid after 1952.
Starting pay is on the city's Salary and Compensation table, last updated October 16, 2025. This guide does not print a dollar.
What To Do This Week
Apply on the city card and register with Public Safety Answers before September 4, 2026. Pay the $50 test fee. Train a department agility, not a CPAT card. Age 18-35, not 36 by January 4, 2027. Hold HS/GED. If you already have TCFP Basic Suppression and DSHS EMT-B (or NREMT), use the certified door. If you do not, use the recruit door and plan the one-year TCFP plus EMT clock. Confirm both close times on the live pages. Ready to Serve is the candidate tracker for certifications, PAT fitness, and application materials.
