Conroe Firefighter Hiring 2026: Next Exam TBD
The next Conroe Fire entry exam is TO BE DETERMINED. Recruiting listed that line on September 3, 2026. No test dates are currently scheduled. Join Conroe Fire says information on any upcoming exam will be posted there. That block has no date.
cityofconroe.applicantpro.com listed 47 City of Conroe jobs on September 3, 2026. Firefighter, cadet, and Fire Department returned 0. August 29 listed 39 city jobs; August 22 listed 37. Same empty fire board. Do not apply for Conroe Fire on ApplicantPro.
Civil Service still hosts the Fire Entry Eligibility List 02.28.2026. That sitting is past. The PDF says the list remains in effect one year from the exam date unless exhausted, so through February 28, 2027 if names remain. It is not a new apply-now posting. Do not send a Letter of Intent while no exam date is posted. When a date posts, Human Resources takes the Letter of Intent by the announcement close. Questions: firerecruiting@cityofconroe.org.
If you want a heads-up when a date posts, the Fire Entry Exam Interest Form is live. Submitting it is not a Letter of Intent. The form says so on its face.
Official hub: cityofconroe.org/services/fire/. Fire Chief Paul D. Sims, 936-522-3080. Fire Administration 700 Metcalf St., Conroe, TX 77301. The hub also names the Conroe Municipal Center at 300 W. Davis. Department listing: Conroe Fire Department. That live listing is /departments/conroe-fire-department. The paths /departments/conroe-fire-rescue and /departments/conroe-fd are not this department. cityofconroe.org/departments/fire and /departments/fire-department are not the live hub. What You Need Before You Apply
Chapter 143 civil service since 1991. TCFP and EMT cards are not the sit-gate.
- 18th birthday by the written exam. Must not have reached the 36th birthday at official appointment. Recruiting also lists "between 18 and 35." Those lines are the same split, not a flat 18-35.
- High school diploma or GED. United States citizen. Read and write English. Texas driver's license at appointment.
- TCFP Basic and DSHS EMT-Basic are not required to apply. They must be in hand before a conditional job offer. The city does not currently provide firefighter or EMT training. Get those cards on your own.
- All hires start as Probationary Firefighter. Prior rank at another department does not carry.
- The CFD is basic / non-transport first response. Montgomery County Hospital District runs ALS and transport. There is no paramedic incentive on the FAQ.
Does Conroe Use CPAT?
No. The physical ability test is typically within 2 weeks of the written exam. All candidates take the CFD PAT. A CPAT card does not skip it.
- Task 1: don SCBA, 5 minutes.
- Task 2: aerial 100 feet at 70 degrees, 5 minutes.
- Task 3: 7 minutes. Half-mile run; don SCBA (no face piece); then while wearing SCBA: carry a 50-foot section of 2.5-inch hose 180 feet, drag a 90-pound dummy 100 feet, drive a Kaiser sled 5 feet, advance a charged 2.5-inch line 50 feet, hoist one section of 2.5-inch hose.
Tasks 1 and 2 may run in either order. Task 3 is last. Shift is 24/48. The FAQ says the department is not considering 48/96.

How Long Is the Academy?
The city has not published a recruit-academy week count. Candidates arrive already TCFP and EMT. First-year work is on the job. Older copies of this page used 12 to 16 weeks; that figure is not on the city's pages. Lone Star College is in the region. It is not a required first school.
Out of state: plan at least three trips (exam and PAT, polygraph, psych and medical). FAQ: first conditional offers typically within 2 weeks of the exam, depending on openings; the rest of the process typically 2 to 3 months after a conditional offer. Veterans: original DD-214 plus a copy on exam day.

What To Do While the Exam Is Unpublished
Watch Join Conroe Fire and Recruiting. Use the interest form for notification. Send a Letter of Intent only after a date posts. If you are already on the February 28, 2026 list, that list runs through February 28, 2027 unless exhausted; it is not a door for new applicants. Get TCFP Basic and DSHS EMT-Basic on your own so you can take a conditional offer. Train the department PAT, not a CPAT card. Do not apply on ApplicantPro for fire. Ready to Serve is the candidate tracker for certifications, PAT fitness, and application materials.
