How the ladder works

The department describes a structured promotional pathway through Fire Driver, Fire Captain, Battalion Chief and Assistant Chief, with formal assessment centers. On the pay plan, each promoted rank steps at promotion, two years in rank and four years in rank. Continuing education runs alongside: annual requirements include 20 hours of TCFP continuing education, NREMT recertification, and department training on special operations. Degree work is supported through partnerships with the University of North Texas and North Central Texas College in fire science, emergency management and public administration.
