Do you need EMT to enroll?

After the academy. The sourced page says: "Successfully complete medical training equal to Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or paramedic certification as approved by TCFP."

What are the enrollment prerequisites?

  • High school diploma, GED, or official college transcript (or a school letter with graduation date if still in high school)
  • At least 18 years of age (valid driver's license or government- or state-issued identification)
  • Meningitis immunization within the past five years if under 22, completed at least ten days before the face-to-face portion

Where TEEX disagrees with itself, what should you do?

TEEX's own sources disagree on the traditional 12-week academy (RFT001). The handbook Volume III (published August 2026) and the TCFP Upcoming Training List both date a cohort August 31, 2026 to November 20, 2026. The RFT001 class page on August 29, 2026 said: "Currently there are no scheduled classes for this course." The handbook application due date for that cohort was July 30, 2026, which has already passed. They disagree. Act on the earliest restriction: that due date is past, so do not treat RFT001 as an open door.

Two College Station addresses are in play. Skills campus in the handbook Brayton listing: 1595 Nuclear Science Road, College Station, TX 77843. TCFP list and handbook headquarters: 200 Technology Way, College Station, TX 77845. They are not the same address. Skills and class location is Brayton.

Three phones are printed. Handbook academy office: 979-500-6821. RFT001 Emergency Services Training Institute: (979) 845-7641 and toll-free (866) 878-8900. They disagree. Use them all until TEEX tells you which desk owns your file.

ORA101 length: the class page calls it a sixteen-week course (twelve weeks of computer-based training plus a four-week skills camp). The handbook describes 345 hours of distance learning plus a 200-hour skills camp and does not print "16 weeks." They disagree. The 545-hour total is on both the class pages and the handbook.

What else do the sourced pages say?

  • EMT is not an enrollment prerequisite for the TEEX Fire Academy. TCFP Basic Fire Suppression certification, after the academy, requires medical training equal to EMR, EMT, or paramedic as approved by TCFP. The academy itself does not award EMT.
  • RFT001 class page (2026-08-29) says no scheduled classes. Handbook Volume III (published August 2026) and the TCFP Upcoming Training List both print an August 31, 2026 to November 20, 2026 Structure Firefighter / RFT001 cohort.
  • TCFP training-sites map did not yield a printed facility ID this unit. Approval is sourced from the Upcoming Training List provider row plus the academy's own TCFP language.
  • Cap: forty participants for RFT001, forty-five for ORA101. Live-fire ratio one instructor to five participants.
